Sooner or later they will belong to someone else.

1. LA MÈRE MICHELimg010 img011
2. J'AI DU BON TABAC

I don't understand what is written on these 2 postcards. I hope that one day I will master this language better and understand every single word all by myself.

I like the smell of these postcards. It was the aroma of that antique shop.

我不明白卡上寫的東西。我希望有一日我會能掌握這個語言好一點,然後自己自自然然地明白卡上每一個字。

我很喜歡這兩張卡的香味。這是那間古董店的味道。

  1. Those are very lovely! There are little excerpts from popular French songs from the 18th and 19th centuries on the back. The verses on the first postcard talk about the mother Michel who lost her cat and gets it back in exchange for a rabbit. The second one is about a son who's father owns some nice tobacco. (But maybe you know all this already...) Thank you for sharing them! :)

  2. MOTHER MICHEL

    I
Mother Michel has lost her cat
and is shouting by the window to whoever will find it back
And buddy Lustucru has answered to her :
Come on, mother Michel, your cat isn't lost.

    II
Mother Michel has asked him :
    my cat isn't lost, so you've find it ;
And buddy Lustucru has answered to her :
If you give a rewad, you'll get it back

    III
And mother Michel has said to him : deal,
    if you give back my cat, you'll get a kiss ;
And buddy Lustucru, who didn't want it,
has said to het : for a rabbit, your cat is sold.

  3. I HAVE FINE TOBACCO

I have fine tobacco in my tobacco pouch
I have fine tobacco, you won't get any.
I have fine tobacco, grated tobacco,
And that's definetely not for you !
I have fine tobacco in my tobacco pouch
I have fine tobacco, you won't get any.
That tune sung by my father
    was that sole couplet only
    But I am determined
to make it as fat as my nose (to make it grow bigger and bigger)
I have fine tobacco in my tobacco pouch
I have fine tobacco, you won't get any.
(etc etc to be repeated ad libitum)

Sorry for both translation, if that's not perfect. My English is not very good.

  5. If you want to hear the tunes :
    Mère Michel : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJVN8wHXz68
    J'ai du bon tabac : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki_SHUetVRU
Note that the lyrics can slightly change, for those are traditional songs.
